This world has lost another angel - our beautiful and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Carol J. Ryan Burkett passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY.
Carol was born June 30, 1935 in Covington, KY to her sweet parents, Elmer and Edna Ryan, who await her on the other side. She also had two brothers, Frank Ryan and Clarence "Junior" Ryan who preceded her in death.
She met the love of her life, Jack Burkett, in high school. She would gladly tell you she knew the minute she met him that he would be her husband, even though he was dating someone else at the time - she was on a mission. After 63 years of marriage, it is safe to say her goal was a success. This man she adored passed away in July 2016 and life for her was never quite the same after. She was often known to say - especially in those last days of her life - "I just want Jack" - I just want to be with him. What gives her family peace is believing they are now indeed reunited for all eternity.
They created a family with four daughters and from there the family extended through the years.Carol is survived by her daughters, Karen, Peggy, Lora and Terra and their spouses Tom and Wendell. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Carol's family thanks the doctors and nurses who took care of mom in her last days. An extra special thanks tothe merciful angels at St Elizabeth Hospice that took such compassionate care of Carol in her last days - preserving her dignity. They also were there in support of her daughter Peggy in the room as her mother took her last breath. Simply thank you - their tenderness and love will not be forgotten. For this reason, it is sincerely requested that you forego flowers and plants and consider making a donation of any amount you wish to St. Elizabeth Hospice on South Loop Road in Edgewood, KY. Their website has a donate button. Also, to the incredible people at Atria Assisted Living - mom could not have survived without you after dad passed. The staff and her many friends there became her lifeline and we cannot thank you enough. She named so many of you by name in her last days. That was indeed her family and we know they will miss her "light."
A funeral is planned for Monday, February 5, 2018 at 10:30 am at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
We will miss you, SO much mom - your love, caring and as your best friend Ruth Clark would say - your incredible sense of humor. Goodbye - but only for a time. Families are Forever. Give dad a big hug for us until we can do it for ourselves.
