Elizabeth "Betty" Cavanaugh, 91, passed away on May 6, 2017 at St Elizabeth Hospital, Edgewood. She was born on September 3, 1925 to the late Theodore and Emma (Knochelman) Gripshover. On March 2, 1946 she married William Bernard Cavanaugh, who survives.
Betty was the loving mother to Jim Cavanaugh, Cathy (Tom) Johnson, Patricia (David) Lauer and Linda (Mark) Peddicord; loving grandmother to Heidi Tucker, Heather Wilson, Andrew Lauer, Matt Lauer, Amanda Greenwald, Michael Cavanaugh and Laura Cavanaugh; loving great grandmother to 10 great grand children; sister to Paul Gripshover and Agnes Adams; and aunt to many nieces and nephews, who survive.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson Billy Sams in 1993, her daughter Mary Ann in 2001, her daughter in law Fran Cavanaugh and several brothers and sisters.
Betty was a parishioner of St Cecelia Catholic Church for 91 years, where she was awarded the Cecilian Award, along with her husband, for their many years of service. Betty will be fondly remembered for her beautiful flower gardens and the delicious meals she served her family and friends for many years. She was a loving wife to William for 71 years. Being a farmer's wife, Betty was a hard worker both inside and outside her home. There were hired hands who wanted to work for the Cavanaugh's because of the food they knew they would be served. Gardening was a favorite pastime of Betty's. She will be sadly missed by her family and those who knew her.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St Cecilia Church Building Fund.
