He was a supervisor in the paint department for Kings Island, honorary member of the American Legion, and a Member of Christian Tabernacle Church in Newport.
His son, Michael Powell, died previously.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Powell of Newport; sons, James Powell Jr. of Highland Heights, Steven and Brandon Powell of Newport; daughter, Gwen Powell of Newport; companion and caregiver, Sandy Medley of Newport; sister, Margaret Grimm of Fort Thomas; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4-8p.m. Wednesday, Dec.16, at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at Christian Tabernacle Church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill.
