Jean Marie McGuire

Jean Marie McGuire (Cupp) of Bellevue, Kentucky died on April 21, 2023 at the age of 81. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She died at University of Cincinnati Medical Center surrounded by people who loved her.  

Jean was born on March 20, 1942 in Highsplint, Kentucky to Sarah Alice (Jackson) and Mack Hillary Cupp. She talked often about growing up in Harlan County with her sisters Linda (Mary) and Mattie. Upon completion of high school, Jean enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1960-1962. In March of 1962, she married Philip and they had three children: Sarah, Richard and Tony. As a military family, the early years of their married life took them to Missouri, Germany, Georgia and Kansas before eventually settling down in northern Kentucky. Jean and Phil were married 59 years before his death in October, 2021.  

She was a hard worker and a determined woman- eventually deciding to pursue a career in nursing. She was very proud of the 28 years she spent as a nurse for Rosedale Manor. Outside of caring for residents, she was always willing to lend a hand to help fellow coworkers and remained close friends with many of them even after she retired in 2010. She was dependable and always stood firm in her convictions.  

Jean was a devout Christian and she was happy to share her faith with those around her. She was generous and prayerful. She always looked forward to spending time with her friends at Bible study. Jean could often be found reading her favorite scripture, a romance novel or listening to her favorite music (classic country or gospel).   

Jean loved her family. She had a strong presence and will be missed greatly by those who loved her. She is survived by her three children; Sarah (Sandi) Harrison (Tommy), Richard McGuire (Nancy), and Philip (Tony) McGuire (Jenny), grandchildren; Alicia Nelson (Aaron), Kim Nelson (Waylon), Greg Underwood, Heather (McGuire) Isaacs, Constance Smith (Denny), Ricky McGuire (Rischelle), Cassie Howard (Corey), Gunnar McGuire, and Blake McGuire, as well as 17 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, sister Mattie and husband.
