Newport

Joseph H. Cochran, Jr., age 96, of Newport/Covington, KY, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, with his loved ones by his side. Joseph was born on July 7, 1928, in Kenton Co, KY to the late Joseph H. and Bertie (nee George) Cochran, Sr.

In October 1950, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War stationed in Germany until October 1951, when he was then in the Army Reserve for 4 years. He worked for many years for the railroad and retired as a yard master for CSX . After retirement he bought and owned a bar in Covington called Visions where the movie City of Hope was shot on location. He truly loved his bar and all the friends he made in this part of his life. In his free time, he enjoyed cruising in one of many of his Cadillacs over the years and later in his blue Ford Mustang He also enjoyed fishing, boating, photography, listening to county music, model trains, and for many years played on a soft ball league. And it wouldn’t be uncommon to see him hanging out at Bobby Mackey’s at the end of the bar, having a pony bottle of beer and a cigar. But most of all, Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Joseph was not only known for looking dapper in his 3-piece suits and fedora hats but was also given the honorary title of “Kentucky Colonel”

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Michael Cochran and Granville “Gran” Cochran; and brother, Gene Cochran. Joseph is survived by brothers: Kenneth Cochran and Lee Cochran; his children: Johnny (Debbie) Cochran, Joseph Dill, Lesa (Michael) Dooloukas, and Randy Cochran; grandchildren: Jamie Barham, Joseph Barham, Britney Dill, Erik Murphy, Evan Murphy and Joey Cochran; great-grandchildren: Norah Murphy and Lucy Murphy and may others; close special friends: Polly, Clara, Tom and Maggie; and numerus other loving family members and friends.
