Joseph E. (Cigar) Jackson, 87, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, Kentucky.
Joe had a long career operating heavy equipment at the Kentucky State Highway Department. In addition, he was a volunteer Independence, Kentucky firefighter for many years. Once retired, Joe worked in excavating for a family friend, John Eggleston, for 15 years.
Joe leaves 3 children: Bud (Chris) Jackson, Becky (Glen-deceased) Jones, and Terry Jackson. He also leaves 5 grandchildren: Aimee (Ross) Allen, Tony Jones (Cindy), Scott Jackson, Kcee (Steve) Hoh, and Scott Jones (Joey); 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Joe is survived by 3 brothers: Jasper (nickname Pete), Danny, Donald (nickname Duck), and 2 sisters: Margaret Ramsey and Barb Jones. He is preceded in death by his wife Emily, 4 brothers: Kirby, James Robert, Ben, and Bradford, and 4 sisters: Daisy Marie, Liza Jane, and Mary Jackson, and Flora Mae Payne. Joe is also preceded in death by 1 great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held at Floral Hills Funeral Home in Taylor Mill on Monday, July 12 from 11:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. A service will follow at 1:00, with burial at 2:00 p.m. in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
