Lawrence Arthur Fleckinger
77, of Taylor Mill, Kentucky passed away Tuesday October, 15, 2019. Lawrence was born above Bill & Lee Bakery at 13th & Vine Street in Cincinnati, Ohio in a two-bedroom apartment on May 16, 1942 to Arthur Lawrence Fleckinger and Florence Laura Mansu Fleckinger. When he was 12 years of age, his family moved to 921 4th Street in Dayton, KY across from the Spears Memorial Hospital. Lawrence attended St. Bernard Elementary School 7th and 8th grades, then went to Newport Catholic High School where he graduated in 1960. He worked for 1 year at R.L. Polk Co. in Cincinnati and later joined the US Air Force in 1961 and served four years Active Duty and was honorably discharged in 1965. It was one week after being discharged that he met the love of his life, Karen Louise Knipper. They were married on April 16, 1966.
Lawrence was a machinist by trade and always was a hard worker at various jobs and proved to be an excellent provider for his family. In his younger years he was a paperboy and later worked as a pin-setter at the Dan & Lees Bowling Alley in Dayton, KY. He also worked as a caddy at the Highlands Country Club Golf Course, The Carlton Machine Tool Co for 11 years, then went to Le Blonde Tool Company until he was hired at Ford Motor Company where he continued to work for 22 years. He went on Disability in 1997 with an illness called Spinocerebellar Degeneration.
The last few years were rough for Lawrence but the best vocation he ever had was when he became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he was baptized in 1992 and from then on, he continued to be an avid Bible reader and preacher of the Good News. Some of his favorite scriptures are; Matt 28:19,20; Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Isaiah 48:17,18 and Isaiah 33:24.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents; Arthur and Florence Fleckinger and brother David Kenneth Fleckinger. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Karen Knipper Fleckinger: daughters Marie (Glen) Cook, Cheryl Ann (Kevin) Davis, and Amber Fleckinger; sons Lawrence Arthur (Stephanie) Fleckinger, Kevin Michael (Bethany) Fleckinger and Jordan (Dolly) Fleckinger Costello; brothers Arthur Paul (Dorothy) Fleckinger of Glen Este, OH, Gregory Joseph (Brenda) Fleckinger of Florence, KY, and Dennis Anthony of Louisville, KY. He also leaves behind grandchildren, great grandchildren and many relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
A Visitation will be held at Floral Hills Funeral Home on Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 4 p.m. until time of Funeral Service at 6 p.m.
