Mary Alice Christensen, a dedicated nurse and retired Colonel in the United States Air Force, passed peacefully at her residence on November 5, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on January 28, 1940, in Hazard, Kentucky, Mary led a life characterized by unwavering commitment and compassion for others.
Her remarkable educational journey culminated in a Master's Degree, a testament to her dedication to her profession and the care she provided throughout her nursing career. Mary's service extended beyond her nursing practice; her military career as a Colonel in the USAF, NC, BSN, MSED Nursing Corps showcased her leadership and devotion to her country.
Mary Alice is survived by her cherished family, including her beloved baby Brittany Madden and her cousin and best friend Glena Rizzo. She is also lovingly remembered by her brothers: Lee (Juanita) Elam, Russell (Tammy) Elam, and Joe (Patty) Elam. In addition, she leaves behind a wealth of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Taylor Hurst and Madge (Lowry) Elam, her brother Johnny Elam, and her two beloved fur babies, Fritz and Freda.
Mary Alice's legacy will endure through the countless lives she touched in her career and her loving family, who will carry forward the kindness and strength she exemplified throughout her life. In Lieu of flowers please donate to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
A graveside service with full military honors will take place on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 11:00am at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill, Ky.
