Mary Lee Walker Edwards was born in Saxton, Ky on October 20, 1935. She lived happily on a farm with her parents, Lawrence and Cordella, brother Bill, and goat Chance until the family was relocated to Covington, KY during WWII to work for the war effort. She remembers being made fun of in the early years of school because of her thick southern accent. She went to school through the 11th grade at Holmes High School and then worked in an office. Her boyfriend, Bob Edwards, played football at Holmes High School and was in the Marine Corps and would often hitchhike home for visits. They were married on Christmas Eve 1953. They moved into their home at 717 Sunset Dr. between her mom and dad and Kay and Don Stahl and started their family: sons Robert (Lisa) and Tom (Jean), and daughter Cindy (Todd).
Mary was a homemaker while Bob worked for the Southern Railroad. She enjoyed her family and after they were older, she found a talent in art. She was a gifted painter in oils, watercolor, and china. She also got her GED and took several classes at Northern Kentucky University for secretarial skills. She worked at the Calvary Book Room for many years and later was a foodie at Remke’s Grocery Store where she passed out samples to the customers. She taught Sunday School to 4th and 5th grade girls at Calvary Baptist Church for 20 years. During their marriage, Bob and Mary enjoyed vacationing with Bob’s brother’s family in Myrtle Beach and Florida as well as traveling to Hawaii and taking many cruises with friends. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Abbie, Laura (Tommy), Erin (PJ), Audra, Clay and Jay, and two great grandchildren, Hudson and Eleanora. She went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2023.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Floral Hills Funeral Home in Taylor Mill with a memorial service afterward. Reception following at Calvary Baptist Church in Latonia.
