MaryLou Rice, a beacon of warmth and love, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on November 4, 1934, MaryLou dedicated her life to nurturing those around her, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. As a Nurses Assistant, she brought comfort and compassion to her patients, embodying a spirit of kindness that was evident in every interaction.
MaryLou had a vibrant personality that shone through her ever-present smile. Her warmth was matched only by her dedication to her family. She cherished spending time with her loved ones, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who enriched her life with joy and laughter. The love she had for them was reflected in the countless memories shared, from family gatherings to simple afternoons spent in her garden.
Her garden was a sanctuary where she found peace tending to her flowers and feeding the birds and squirrels that flocked to her yard. MaryLou also devoted her time to volunteering at local schools and The Brighton Center, demonstrating her commitment to her community. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her family, showing that her love knew no bounds.
MaryLou leaves behind her beloved children: daughter Polly Stringer (Tim), son Lee Rice (Laura), and daughter Lynn Rice. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Zachary Stringer, Paige Portwood (Jimmy), Asiah Ryles (Chris), Justin Rice, Bailey Rice, Dakota Rice, and Lexy Rice, as well as several great-grandchildren who will carry her spirit forward. She is also remembered fondly by her nieces, Connie Orr and Linda O'Brien (Ed).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Gisela Putz, and her sisters, Eleanor Putz and Jacqueline "Betty" Orr, who celebrated her life even as they welcomed her into their eternal embrace.
As we remember MaryLou Rice, we hold dear the laughter, love, and life lessons she imparted. Her gentle spirit and enduring kindness will be profoundly missed, but we are grateful for the time we had with her and the love that will continue to resonate in our hearts. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers please send donations to St. Elizabeth Hospice.
