Michael McLaughlin

Michael John McLaughlin, 70, of Independence, Kentucky passed away on March 27, 2018 at St Elizabeth Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 4, 1947 to the late John Matthew and June Elizabeth McLaughlin. On October 31, 2017 he married Ellen Blackburn. Michael retired from the Cincinnati Police Department after 27 years of service. He then served as the Head of Security at the Cincinnati Museum Center for 20 years before retiring in 2013. He was a member of FOP Lodge #69 and the Cincinnati Warthogs. He loved spending time with his family and friends, as well as vacations to the beach, Torch Lake in Michigan and Smokey Mountains. Michael enjoyed motorcycle riding and blues music. He was also a huge fan of Maker's Mark Bourbon and cigars! Brunch with his family at First Watch was also on his list of things he enjoyed. Michael will be sadly missed by those he knew and loved.
In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by his children Lisa McLaughlin, Christina (Mark) McLaughlin-Bentley, Tim McLaughlin, Jill (David) Battin; step-children Roy (Missy) Piper, James (Pam) Piper, Joy Pugh, John Blackburn, Kammy Igo; sisters Linda (Tom) McLaughlin Smith, Julie McLaughlin, Debbie McLaughlin; 15 grandchildren; I great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Floral Hills Funeral Home on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 1 pm until time of FOP service at 3:30 pm, followed by the funeral service at 4 pm. A Celebration of Life reception will be held at the VFW Hall Post 6423, 4435 Dixie Hwy, Elsmere, Kentucky beginning at 5 pm.
