Peggy Sue Sterling Schumacher, 77, of Florence, KY passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at her home, with family by her side. Peggy was born on November 5, 1946, to the late Edward Sterling and Betty Endress Schroeder. Peggy spent her early years in Covington, KY and graduated high school from Our Lady of the Highlands in 1964. She went on to earn her Associates Degree in Radiology and became an X-ray technician.
Peg met her husband, Tom, while visiting Our Lady of the Highlands on June 14, 1964. It wasn’t until three years later, with persistent encouragement from Sister Kevin, that Tom asked Peggy out for their first date- bowling and miniature golf! She won at bowling but Tom won the bigger prize when they were married on August 10, 1968. Peg was a devoted army wife, taking care of her home and family while Tom served in the Vietnam War. Peg, like Tom, was a true patriot, and served her country with honor, on the homefront, while Tom was deployed overseas. Peg loved her family dearly, and was so proud of Kevin, Tammy, and all of her grandchildren.
If you knew Peg, you definitely knew about the other man in her life- Elvis Presley! Elvis pictures, clocks, dishes, blankets, and trinkets are all on prominent display throughout her home. She attended his concerts in her youth and was constantly watching his movies and listening to his music!
When Peg wasn’t at home you could usually find her at a local church or hall playing her favorite sport- BINGO! If you saw how fast the dauber moved, you would call it a sport too! She was a fierce competitor in the bingo halls- almost always leaving with a profit! More recently, Peg enjoyed shopping on QVC and watching Press Your Luck and Family Feud on the game show network.
Peggy was a beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, friend, and neighbor who will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra White, and her niece Julie Ann Tinker. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Thomas Schumacher; son Kevin (Michele) Schumacher and daughter Tamara (Keith) McClure; her grandchildren Korey Schumacher, Shannon McClure, Conner McClure, Trevor Schumacher, Casey McClure, and Sydney Schumacher; her great grandson Niko Schumacher; and her siblings Ronnie (Sheena) Sterling, Tim (Kathy) Sterling, and Cheryl Colwell.
