Richard Conway “Slick” Bowman, a cherished member of the Seventh Day Adventist community and a devoted family man, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the age of 85. Known for his warm heart, boundless skills, and unwavering faith, Richard's legacy will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Born on August 31, 1938, in Dayton, OH, Richard, or “Slick” as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren, grew up with a passion for mechanics and a talent for building. He spent his early years honing his skills, which later served as the foundation for his own successful trucking business. As a long-haul trucker, Richard traversed countless miles, delivering goods with dedication and a steadfast work ethic that earned him the respect of peers and clients alike.
Richard’s hands were rarely idle; he was a true jack of all trades. Whether it was repairing cars, constructing intricate projects, or solving practical problems around the house, his ingenuity and craftsmanship were unparalleled. His love for building and fixing things was matched only by his joy in teaching others, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a nugget of wisdom.
Music was another of Richard's great loves. With a soulful voice and a natural ear for tenor, he often filled his home and gatherings with song. Whether singing hymns at church or serenading family and friends, his music brought joy and comfort to many.
A devoted Seventh Day Adventist at his church in Taylor Mill, KY, Richard’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He found solace and strength in his spiritual community, contributing his time and skills to various church projects and activities. His belief in service, compassion, and love for his fellow man was evident in everything he did.
Preceding Richard in death were his parents, Frank and Pearl Bowman; his daughter, Sherry Stansell and all his siblings, Frank Jr., Bob, Joe, Jake, Janette and Patricia.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Sandra Bowman; his daughter, Michele (Hal) Barkan; step-children, Jill (Jason) Oldiges, Jule (Gerry) Pizzano and Rob (Michelle) Tate; grandchildren, Amanda (Crandall) Gilbreath, Dallas (Heather) Skoretz, Alex (Courtney) Marshall, Matthew (Sarah) Marshall, Zackary Pizzano, Nicholas Pizzano, Matthew Pizzano, Will Tate and Gabbe Tate; 7 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends who will miss his humor, kindness, and indomitable spirit. He is now sleeping in Christ and will join those who preceded him in death at the second coming. H is memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
A visitation celebrating Richard’s life will take place from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Floral Hill Funeral Home – Chapel A, 5336 Old Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, KY 41015. A funeral service will begin immediately following at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Richard will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Richard leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and a legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
