Ronald E. "Ron" Laws, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the age of 80.
Born on February 6, 1944, to the late Glen Thomas and Rita Laws, Ron dedicated his life to his family and his work. He spent many years as a pipefitter for Local 392, where his commitment and skill were highly valued. Ron's professional journey was marked by his passion for his craft and his unwavering work ethic.
Ron met his future wife, Joanne, on a blind date, and their love story spanned six wonderful decades. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised a family and built a life full of cherished memories.
Ron was a member of the Newport Elks Lodge and the Taylor Mill Moose Lodge. He enjoyed a wide range of hobbies including golfing, fishing, playing cards, and bowling. His love for softball was particularly notable; Ron was a proud founding member of the National UA Tournament, a testament to his dedication and enthusiasm for the sport.
A fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, Ron followed the team with great enthusiasm. His love for sports extended to his enjoyment of vacationing and spending time with his family. Ron delighted in watching his granddaughters play volleyball and his grandson perform in the school band, taking immense pride in their achievements.
Preceding Ron in death were his siblings, Thomas Laws and Beverly Bohart. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 60 years, Joanne Laws; his daughter, Leah (Chris) McDonald; and his siblings, Linda Laws, Sandy (Cleon) Smith, and Patty (Butch) Memering. Ron is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Jessica McDonald, Kayla (Tyler Jones) McDonald, and Cameron McDonald, as well as numerous friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Floral Hills Funeral Home, Chapel A, after which Ron will be laid to rest peacefully at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, with a Celebration of Life service following the graveside service, at Floral Hills Event Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ron's honor to Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice, 1733 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY 40504.
Ron’s warmth, humor, and dedication will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
