Ronald Dean “Ron” Rader, a devoted patriot, dedicated worker, and lover of gospel music, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his residence on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the age of 86. Ron, as he was affectionately known, was born in London, KY on March 31, 1938, and his life was marked by service, hard work, and a profound love for his family, country and faith.

 

Early on in Ron’s life, he worked at L&N Railroad. From there he also worked as an over the road trucker and school bus driver for many years. His commitment to his job was unparalleled, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and supervisors.

 

A true patriot, Ron proudly served in the Navy Reserves as a youth and then the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After he returned from the Army, Ron went on to continue serving in the Navy Reserves. His dedication to his country was a testament to his character and unwavering sense of duty. His service is remembered with honor and gratitude.

 

Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Ron had a deep love for gospel music. Growing up as the son of a minister, he found immense joy in listening to and singing his favorite hymns, which brought him and those around him great comfort and inspiration. His melodious voice and heartfelt renditions of gospel songs will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of hearing him sing.

 

Preceding Ron in death were his parents, Charles and Lorine Rader; his son, Tracy Scott Rader and his sister, Wanda Guthrie.

 

Ron is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 67 years, Linda Rader; children, Mitchell (Annette) Rader and Barbara Jean (Scott) Brewer; grandchildren, Kyle Rader, Jessica Graham, Katie Thornberry, Courtney Hudgens, Karli Rader, Matt Brewer and Emma Brewer; great-grandchildren, Levi, Mason, Owen, Madelyn, Abel, Everett, Wyatt, Ava, Jackson, Jacob, Nash and Mac; along with many friends and extended family who will miss him dearly. His legacy of service, hard work, and faith will continue to inspire those who knew him.

 

A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Floral Hills Funeral Home-Chapel B, 5336 Old Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, KY 41015, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Ron's life and honor his memory. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Ron will then be laid to rest with military honors at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Ron’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

 

Ron’s steadfast spirit, unwavering patriotism, and love for gospel music will forever resonate in the hearts of those he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
