Steven Edward “Steve” Rooney, a dedicated long-haul trucker and proud U.S. Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the age of 68.
Born on July 21, 1955, in Dayton, KY, Steve spent his early years cultivating a love for adventure and service. After graduating high school, he answered the call of duty and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served his country with honor and distinction. Following his military service, Steve transitioned to a career as a long-haul trucker. For many years, he crisscrossed the country, navigating America's highways and byways with unwavering dedication. His time on the road allowed him to experience the vast beauty of the nation he loved, and he took pride in delivering goods that kept the country moving.
In his leisure time, Steve found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fan of classic television shows, particularly "Green Acres" and "Gunsmoke," which brought him countless hours of relaxation and nostalgia. These shows reminded him of a bygone era and provided a comforting escape from his demanding work schedule.
Steve's life was marked by his steadfast work ethic, his patriotic spirit, and his warm, approachable nature. He is remembered by his family and friends as a man of integrity, kindness, and a dry sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.
Preceding Steve in death was his sister, Brenda Rooney; his grandparents, Edward and Marie Rooney and his niece, Mary Ellen Rooney.
He is survived by his loving family, including his loving wife of 36 years, Phyllis Darlene Rooney; children, Mary Margaret (Jammie) Rosenhagen, Tonya (Joe) Kreyling, Charles “Chuck” Vinson, Stephanie Rooney and Lisa Howard; sister, Cecilia (Joe) Richard; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as many other close relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory and the lessons he imparted.
