Thelma Jean Sawyer

Thelma Jean Sawyer, of Florence, KY passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Boonespring Nursing Home in Union, KY on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the glorious age of 91 years old.

She was born in Oneida, TN on May 23, 1932, the daughter of the late Marion and Delphia Buttram. Thelma was a longtime employee for Christ Hospital and in her free time enjoyed watching Westerns on her television. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her family, whom she cherished deeply.

Preceding Thelma in death was her parents; her loving husband, Marvin Sawyer, Sr.; and two sons, Donald Ray Sawyer and Ronald Wayne Sawyer.

Those left surviving to carry on Thelma’s memory include her caring children, Jeannie (Leon) Doyle, Sandra Schaffer, Marvin Sawyer, Jr. and Garold Sawyer; her brother, Leslie Buttram; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren; as well as other close relatives and friends who are now emptier upon her passing.

A visitation celebrating Thelma’s life will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 5336 Old Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, KY 41015. She will then be reunited and laid to rest next to her husband at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
